Thakur Jagat Singh of Mehrun riding horse attended by huqqa bearer and footsoldiers, c. late 18th century

Thakur Jagat Singh of Mehrun riding horse attended by huqqa bearer and footsoldiers.
By a Ghanerao artist at Ajmer. Opaque watercolour with gold on warqa.
Circa late 18th century.
30.4 x 24.3cm
The inscription on the reverse reads -[?]- anopsingh jagatsingh referring to Anup Singh, 4th thakur of Mehrun in Ajmer and son Jagat Singh, 5th thakur.
It is not unusual for a painting's inscription to refer to a subject's father and even grandfather.
The Victoria and Albert museum has an earlier painting of a thakur ( IS.12-1978) also made in Ajmer by a Ghanerao artist.
