Painting (watercolour). Folio 10 from an album showing Turkish costume. Bostancı başı. Chief of the bostancıs (originally the gardeners) and commander of the Imperial Guard, having jurisdiction over the shores and waters of the Bosphorus. Also responsible for the execution of high-ranking wrong-doers. Scarlet kaftan lined with grey fur (astrakhan?) which has long cuffs. Kâtibî kavuk.
