Selictar Aga en cérémonie.

Painting (watercolour). Folio 11 from an album showing Turkish costume. The Silâhdar ağa, keeper of the Sultan's sword, in ceremonial costume. Constantly in attendance upon the Sultan, he was the go-between for the Sultan and his officials. He supervised ceremonials and was responsible for the discipline of the pages amongst numerous other duties and had a large staff of servants, himself. Holding the sword in a jewelled scabbard over his shoulder, he is wearing a red kaftan with a gold design and long flaps. He has a high dark blue head-dress with a gold brim.
