86 Octateuque, Byzantine manuscript, 11 Cent. (Vatican Library, Cod. Gr. 747, Rome, Italy) This manuscript, sometimes dated slightly later than the Smyrna Octateuque with which it is associated, is in most respects very similar. Most of the shields are, however, of a transitional form between the oval and the true kite-shaped types. Many also have pseudo-Kufic decorative inscriptions, as here.
