De moefti of Seyh ül Islam, hoofd van de religieuze zaken, waarschijnlijk Abdullah Efendi.
Waarschijnlijk schilderde Vanmour het portret van Abdullah Efendi (1680?-1743). Deze van oorsprong Griekse geestelijke was vanaf 1718 aan het hof verbonden in de functie van Seyh ül Islam en moest het veld ruimen na de opstand van 1730. Hij werd verbannen, maar keerde in stilte terug naar Istanbul waar hij in 1743 overleed. Abdullah bezat een indrukwekkende verzameling juridisch religieuse documenten en speelde een cruciale rol bij de invoering van de boekdrukkunst in het Ottomaanse Rijk.

The mufti or Åžeyhülislam (Shaykh al-Islam), head of religious affairs, probably Abdullah Efendi.
Vanmour probably painted the portrait of Abdullah Efendi (1680? -1743). This originally Greek cleric was from 1718 at court in the position of Åžeyhülislam and had to resign after the uprising of 1730. He was exiled, but returned quietly back to Istanbul where he died in 1743. Abdullah had an impressive collection of religious legal documents and played a crucial role in the introduction of the printing press into the Ottoman Empire.
